Five days ago (August 5th) marked the 86th anniversary of the birth of Dr. George Habash (Al-Hakim), the founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The PFLP, a revolutionary nationalist organization struggling for national liberation and socialism in Occupied Palestine, released the following statement to mark this occasion.
On August 2, 2012, the 86th anniversary of the birth of Dr. George Habash (Al-Hakim), the “wise man of the revolution,” founder of the Arab Nationalist Movement and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the PFLP Political Bureau issued a statement, that this day should mark an occasion for a permanent departure from the path of Oslo, to confirm our adherence to resistance, steadfastness, and unity to achieve our people’s inalienable rights to return and self-determination, and to confront the occupation.
The Front said that on this occasion, its leadership, base, and all of its fighters renew their commitment to his path of thought, his example, and the values and qualities that he represents. Read the rest of this entry
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine denounced the new “US-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act” signed by US President Barack Obama, which seeks to strengthen military and security cooperation between the U.S. and the occupation state. The bill specifically and comprehensively notes U.S. goals for Israeli military supremacy in the region, calling the U.S. government to secure Israeli “qualitative superiority.” This new bill, once again a recognition of the U.S. strategic alliance with Israel, was given to the racist settler regime of Netanyahu in the month of Ramadan, as it escalates its aggression, settlements and siege, as well as its violation of Arab Muslim and Christian holy sites. This law demonstrates once again the utter contempt of U.S. imperialism for Palestinian blood, Palestinian plundered land, displaced people, and denied rights, and utter disregard for the Arab and Muslim nations.
The Popular Front demanded that the official silence, complicity and encouragement of Israeli crimes be broken at nationa, Arab and Islamic, and international levels, in order to challenge the U.S./Israeli war on our people and demand our inalienable national rights to return, self-determination and independence. The mass line is method of leadership and work which was most clearly developed by Chairman Mao Zedong of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It has been described as the ”concentrate[d]…correct ideas that the masses gain in everyday life.” Mao developed it into a coherent organizing methodology which has subsequently been applied by many revolutionaries since the Chinese revolution.
I firmly believe that the application of the mass line is something that must be fundamental to how revolutionary communists carry out any and all of their work, no matter whether it is in community development initiatives, the anti-imperialist and anti-war struggle, political prisoner and prisoner of war work or other progressive struggles.
